About Library
Sheikh Zayed Medical College / Hospital Library, Rahim Yar Khan is now one of the well organized academic libraries in Pakistan. We have two libraries. Old library is located in the ground floor of Hospital opposite Children ward and other library is located in the new building of College. It contains a print book section, a reference section, quiet study room and an e-library (IT Resource Center). There are more than 170 seats for the readers, 70 seats available in the old library and 100 seats in main campus library of the Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan. It provides an attractive collection of books, medical journals and reference material. The Library has promoted enquiry and critical thinking by providing access to the information resources with the information according to the needs of students and faculty. The library is a central part of the SZMC/H and it provides educational resources to support the college work and mainly serve the faculty and students of the Medical College, Nursing College, Hospital and School of Allied Health Sciences. Its collection comprises of books, professional Medical Journals / Periodicals, Newspaper clippings and Digital databases. The library is stocked more than 11982 books, 1671 professional medical journals, electronic library and other materials on various subjects of interest. The books have been classified using Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The effective practices of acquisition, organization and dissemination of information have been highly valuable in extension of services to the readers. The Library adds new titles and updates its collection regularly to enhance student’s education and to make available the latest resource material for Faculty members. Registered members of library may search library catalogue by using library software (Koha) and we have also access of Higher Education Commission Islamabad digital library.
Library History
Library of Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan was established in June 1999 to fulfill the requirements of CPSP for Postgraduate Training of MCPS, FCPS at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan. The first Library Committee was headed by Chief Executive Gen. (R) Ishtiaq Hussain Shah. The founder chairman of the library committee was Dr. Saeed Akhtar Malik (District Radiologist) and other members were Dr. Ali Hussain (A.M.S), Dr. Abdul Rehman (District Pathologist) and Dr. Imran Bashir (M.O). A post of library clerk was created to look after the library matters. Mr. Bakht Ali was appointed as a library clerk in September 2000. A library attendant was also appointed. With the existence of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan, the library was upgraded and renovated.
Library Timing
SZMC Library is air conditioned. It also provides the heating facility in winter season. The library hours are as follows:

Administration
The administration of library comprises of a library committee which is responsible for the efficient management of library. The library is under the direct control of the Principal Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan.
Library Committee
Library Committee consists of one chairman and four members, which ensure the library to run in Positive senses and instruct the library Staff to run the library as an effective part of Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan.
The meeting of library committee is held regularly to discuss about the library matters like purchase of books, journals etc.

The total Number of Books in the Library is 11982.
A selected stock of books on general knowledge, periodicals, publications, newspapers etc. is also available in the library.

Library Membership
The following are entitled to use the library:
- The staff of SZMC/SZH, Rahim Yar Khan.
- Students of SZMC, Rahim Yar Khan.
- Other doctors approved by the library committee if:
- They become subscribers to the student’s welfare fund by paying as Annual subscription of Rs. 1000/-
- They deposit Rs. 1000/- as security for return of books
Borrowing the Library Materials
The member is advised to draw the attention of the staff at the circulation desk to the condition of the book or other material at the time of issue.
Overdue Items
Books or other reading materials shall be returned to the library on or before the due date. A fine of Rs.10-per book will be charged for each overdue day with maximum fine of twice the cost of the book.
Loss or Damaged Materials
Library books are carefully examined on return and the borrower will be held responsible for the damage. Any person who loss, defaces or otherwise seriously damages the books, journals etc. is liable to pay the cost for replacement of the book.
Fines
The Librarian is authorized to withdraw library facilities from any member who is found misusing the library material or facilities.
